Hi! I'm Sophia, and I'm a graduate aerospace engineering student at Cal Poly SLO.
Here are some projects that I've worked on.
Here are some projects that I've worked on.
AI&T work on Pandora, a smallsat mission funded by the NASA Pioneers Program aiming to studying exoplanets in the near future.
Internship at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory – 2023, 2024, 2025
My attempt to build a successor to the first liquid rocket. Managed a team of 6 students to create a new regeneratively-cooled liquid version of the rocket, which came to a firey end.
SLO Propulsion Technologies (Rocketry Club) – 2025
At-home Schlieren setup using equipment from Cal Poly's ME department. Experimented with Mach diamonds and multi-color imaging.
Personal project – 2024
My part on a 7-person team that designed, tested, and launched a liquid rocket in under two months. Fueled with nitrous oxide and isopropyl alcohol and achieved 15,300 ft altitude and Mach 1.1.
SLO Propulsion Technologies (Rocketry Club) – 2024
Methane and kerosene systems to fuel a turbine generator, and a gas sampling system to test emissions from the generator.
Internship at Scaled Power – 2021, 2022
Macros written in Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications to optimize the task of assigning colors to large assemblies.
Internship at Scaled Power – 2022
Wooden stage for macrophotography subjects that moves automatically and captures a series of photos according to the photographer's specifications.
Personal project – 2021
Recreation of 19th-century view camera with homemade chemical photosensitive plates.
Personal project – 2020 to Present
Less-technical personal projects.
